Vital Records from Saint Anthony Latin Church Archives in Jaffa
The Berouti family of Jaffa was a Palestinian Christian family belonging to the Roman Catholic rite. This section features vital records from the archives of Saint Anthony Latin Church in Jaffa, including baptism, marriage, and death records. These documents trace the lives of Berouti family members before their exile during the Nakba. All records are publicly available on familysearch.org.
A few things to know:
Some pages are currently unavailable on familysearch.org for deaths that occurred in 1928. Negib Berouti’s death record is therefore missing.
Baptism records for years 1913 to 1931 are currently unavailable on familysearch.org. Therefore, records for the following Berouti family members are missing: Antoine Gebran Berouti, Charles Emile Berouti, Salma Emile Berouti, Edouard Berouti, Victor Negib Berouti, Michel Nicolas Berouti, Robert Berouti, Alexandre Berouti, Claire Gelat, and Yvette Gelat.
For privacy reasons, I did not include vital records of people who are still alive today.
Baptism Records
Baptism Record - Michel Berouti, 1861. Anton Araktingi, Michel's future father-in-law, was his godfather.
Baptism Record - Gabriel Berouti, 1864. Anton Araktingi was his godfather.
Baptism Record - Negib Berouti, 1868. Anton Araktingi was his godfather.
Baptism Record - Emile Nicolas Berouti, 1871. Like his 3 older siblings, Anton Araktingi was his godfather.
Baptism Record - Antoine Bichara Berouti, 6 June 1886. Michel Berouti, his dad's first cousin, and Hafiza Basil, potentially his aunt, were Antoine's godparents.
Baptism Record - Nicolas Berouti, 4 August, 1889. Negib Berouti and Marie Regina Farajallah (Nicolas' grandmother) were his godparents.
Baptism Record - Victoria Berouti, daughter of Bichara Berouti and Faridé Basil, 21 December 1890. Michel Berouti (Bichara's first cousin) and Hafiza Basil were Victoria's godparents.
Baptism Record - Victor Berouti, son of Michel Berouti and Julia Araktingi, 1 February, 1891. Negib Berouti and Marie Regina Farajallah were his godparents. Victor died as a baby on August 23th, 1891, at 7 months.
Baptism Record - Georges Michel Berouti, 13 November, 1892. Georges' maternal grandfather, Anton Araktingi, and his paternal grandmother, Marie Regina Farajallah, were also his godparents.
Baptism Record - François Uakim Berouti, son of Michel Berouti and Julia Araktingi, 21 June, 1895. Negib Berouti and Marie Regina Farajallah were his godparents. François Uakim died on August 15th, 1900, at age 5.
Baptism Record - Claire Regina Berouti, 30 September 1896. No godparents were present. The record's english translation, assisted by Large Language Models and checked for accuracy, reads as follows: "In the year of our Lord as above, on the 30th day of September, I, the undersigned pastor of this church of St. Peter the Apostle of Jaffa (Joppe), privately baptized with holy water due to the danger of death, an infant born on the 29th day of the same month and year, the legitimate child of Michael Berouti and Julia Aractingi, parishioners of this church. The name given to the infant was Clara-Regina. She passed away on the 40th day of her age."

Marriage Record - Julia Araktingi and Yacoub Gelat, 1884. Before marrying Michel Berouti, Julia married Yacoub Gelat, who died 4 months after their wedding.
Death Records
Death Record - Marie Yacoub Berouti, Nicolas Yacoub Berouti and Marie Regina Farajallah's first-born child, December 1860. She died at 14 months. Her parents are noted as being of Armenian Catholic rite.
Death Record - Antoine Yacoub Berouti, 26 September, 1874. The death record indicates that his father's name was Georges Yacoub, and that he was Armenian Catholic. It is also noted that he died at 70, which allows us to estimate that he was born in 1803 or 1804.
Death Record - Georges Berouti, son of Antoine Berouti, 31 May, 1884. The record indicates that he died at 35.
Death Record - Victor Berouti, son of Michel Berouti and Julia Araktingi, 23 August, 1891. He was 7 months old.
